The American Dr. Stephen P. Halbrook has filled a significant gap in the historical examination of the horrors of the Nazi regime with his work, now finally published in German, on the restrictive and discriminatory gun legislation in the "Third Reich." Halbrook demonstrates, using newly discovered documents from German and international archives as well as contemporary diaries, letters, eyewitness accounts, and newspaper articles, how the Nazis tightened the gun laws originating from the Weimar Republic to disarm, disenfranchise, and suppress Jews, Communists, and all other so-called enemies of the state and public detractors. The countless books and scholarly treatises on the "Third Reich" and the Holocaust have so far overlooked this important aspect of the power consolidation of the Nazi regime.
