According to current data from the Federal Statistical Office, there are approximately 14.5 million family households with one or more children under the age of 18 in Germany since 1990. This includes married, divorced, and widowed individuals, excluding cohabiting partnerships. Of these family households, over two-thirds had radio devices or stereo systems, nearly one-third had home computers (PCs) or video game consoles, 98% had a television set, and over half were equipped with a video recorder. When interpreting these statistics, it is evident that electronic entertainment media have become a part of everyday reality for families and are thus available and usable by all family members at any time. While this does not provide insights into the intentions and intensity of family media usage, it does indicate a trend based on the data.
