Within late Gothic sculpture in Germany, architectural sculpture represents a largely neglected area, where the figure portals occupy a central position in terms of both quantity and significance. The collection in Germany and the surrounding regions is documented here for the first time through its 240 most important examples, providing a basis for future specialized research. This is achieved through detailed descriptions, material documentation, source citations, and discussions of secondary literature, as well as an index. A summarizing section offers an initial overview of the various aspects of development.
