Product details

For over 30 years, London-based photographer Simon Phipps has been exploring the architectural reconstruction of England after World War II. He documents the brutalism of post-war modernism, and his extensive image archive demonstrates the extent to which architects have contributed to the transformation of the political and social landscape of Great Britain. This is evident in countless private and public buildings, schools, universities, churches, museums, and galleries, as well as entire newly built towns. This book showcases Simon Phipps' photographs of around 80 structures across England from the 1950s to the 1980s. The selection includes both outstanding and well-known buildings as well as lesser-known ones, creating contrasts with architectural fragments of the time that evoke a distinctly brutalist visual atmosphere. The photographs are accompanied by an E.
