Almost 30 years ago, a comic from the Rheingau set out to be called the German Asterix. With plenty of local color, interesting information about viticulture, and a large dose of humor, illustrator Michael Apitz and writers Patrick and Eberhard Kunkel narrated the adventures of Karl, the late harvest rider, across a total of twelve volumes. With countless historical details and many contemporary guest appearances from politics and celebrity, Karl captured the spirit of the times and was translated into English, French, and even Japanese. By 2004, the last Karl adventure had been told, and the creators went their separate ways. Now, in a four-volume, beautifully illustrated complete edition, Karl is brought back to life once again. It includes many details about the creation process, photos, and sketches from the authors' archive, along with an editorial section by Alex Jakubowski.
