Product details

Architecture within the framework of an aesthetic theory of atmospheres: How building can be conceived as the creation of spaces of bodily presence. A new humanism in architecture that is more than a visual art. The book states that something more fundamental has occurred with and after postmodernism than just a pluralization of styles, a re-acceptance of ornamentation, and historical citation. The author speaks of a new humanism in architecture. Unlike Vitruvius, where the human being served as the fundamental measure for architecture and thus determined its geometry, today the human being, as a user and as someone who occupies and interacts with buildings in specific ways, has become the reference point for construction. The actual subject of architecture, Böhme argues, is space, specifically tuned space, that is, atmosphere.
