The era of illusion critique is over. The liberation of the beautiful semblance from the spirit of humorless reason gives rise, especially in cinema today, to adventures that deserve philosophical exploration. This book follows those paths. The monograph sheds new light on the long-believed-dead aesthetic illusion from a philosophical perspective, using film as its basis. It analytically traces the traces of affective seduction as well as the resistant joy in entanglement with fiction. A philosophy of cinema is articulated here, which is also a philosophy of the body and its polymorphic freedom of transformation. Instead of rejecting illusion as a deception to be unmasked, the book's credo is to philosophically defend the willingness to surrender to the transparent fiction in the sense of aesthetic freedom.
