For thirty years, he has been volunteering in patient transport and emergency services for the Red Cross. However, Georg Lehmacher began even earlier: as a civil service worker, he arrived at a small rescue station in Friedberg in 1982, where medical care and equipment were still significantly worse than today. As a result, each individual employee had to take on much more personal responsibility with a considerably lower level of training. During a time when he had turned away from faith, Lehmacher was confronted with extreme experiences that shaped his worldview. "I experienced things where there seemed to be no hope left. Believe me: that’s when I learned to pray again." Professionally, Lehmacher works as a communication designer and is a lecturer at Augsburg University. He is married to Renate and is the father of three adult children.
