The term notation has experienced a remarkable enhancement within the field of image science. Notation can become an artwork and marks the dynamic relationship between idea, design, and work. Nevertheless, the connection between artistic and non-artistic images has not yet been addressed in research. In Angela Lammert's publication, this question is examined for the first time from the perspective of imagery. Notation is understood as a formal method of form-finding beyond a theory of symbols or signs and is distinguished from the current connection to music. The scope ranges from early scientific photography and popular science documentaries to the visual arts in a narrower sense, as well as literature and music. It is essential to address not only imagery but also the formation of imagery.
