Product details

From 1915 to 1918, the First World War raged over the Alpine peaks along the then border between the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Kingdom of Italy. However, those who only think of dizzying summit positions, avalanches, and daring alpine maneuvers overlook that the most important front sections in the Alps were secured by strongholds on both sides. Seven modern Austrian fortifications and four Italian forts were positioned within cannon shot of each other. This book provides insights into the design and history of these fortress systems and recounts the trials, defeats, and triumphs experienced. Current travel descriptions facilitate orientation when exploring the fortress ruins.
