Their fates are often interconnected, like dolls in a Matryoshka set. 1640-48: The young scientist Georg Markgraf, who has left behind the Germany of the Thirty Years' War, seeks to recreate paradise in the New World in Brazil. 1938-1973: Alfred Blau flees from the Nazis in Vienna to Mexico and builds a new life, inspired by the legacy of Georg Markgraf. 2002/2003: The student Sebastian Mold, with a research assignment on German-speaking emigration in Mexico, falls victim to the myth of Moctezuma's feather crown.
