This book deals with the fan scene of German football and the types of violence that have been observed in the past and occasionally still occur today. The study approaches the historical emergence and development of football and its great popularity among the audience in Germany, focusing on the developments and motives behind violent outbreaks among spectators. The emergence of the subcultures of hooligans and ultras is described in detail and compared. The issues of racism and discrimination present in the stadiums are also addressed. Furthermore, the subsequent reactions of the major associations DFB and DFL, as well as the involved clubs, are examined. The work of violence prevention, emphasizing proactive involvement of fans, is highlighted.
