The frame model is one of the most important developments in language theory in recent decades and has become a link between linguistics, cognitive psychology, general cognitive science, and AI research. In this handbook-like introduction, the key theoretical foundations of frame semantics are presented, discussed, and further developed comprehensively from a linguistic perspective for the first time. Alongside founders such as Fillmore, Minsky, Schank/Abelson, and important theoretical predecessors like Bartlett, newer concepts (such as Barsalou) are also addressed, as well as advancements in applied linguistic research. Following the introductory presentation and discussion of frame-theoretical approaches and research practices, a comprehensive integrative working model for frame semantics is introduced, highlighting the various linguistic aspects.
