A hundred years ago, the Virgin Mary appeared several times to three children, Lúcia, Francisco, and Jacinta, in Fátima, Portugal. Lúcia later became a nun, while Francisco and Jacinta succumbed to the Spanish flu just a few years after the apparitions. As the first children who were not martyrs, they were beatified in 2000 during the visit of Pope John Paul II to Fátima. Since then, they have been like two small, shining stars that guide us and illuminate our dark world, which longs so much for hope, love, and peace.
