Numerous works have been written and continue to be written about how subtitles should look or ought to look. However, the focus is rarely directed towards those individuals who create or receive subtitles. This volume fills that gap. Alexander Künzli examines how, according to subtitlers in the German-speaking region, efficient and cooperative production processes in subtitling projects should look and which factors have the greatest impact on the quality of subtitles. Furthermore, he demonstrates that recipients of subtitled films are capable of processing more text than is generally assumed in the professional literature. The results thus also call into question the validity of existing norms in professional subtitling.
