A good film dubbing not only conveys culture-specific content accurately but also effectively. To achieve this, numerous linguistic and extralinguistic aspects must be taken into account. Anja Maibaum illustrates these in this book. After a brief introduction to the research field of 'feature film dubbing,' she analyzes the German dubbings of three American feature films about World War II (Broken Chains, Triumph of the Spirit, and Operation Valkyrie), examining various linguistic levels. As a result, she presents precise insights into the linguistic means used in each case, as well as critical statements regarding the quality of the dubbing. The author's main focus is on military language.
