Product details

The physiology, the study of functions in a healthy organism, has been taught at the University of Leipzig since 1531 at the Medical Faculty. The establishment of the Institute of Pathological Physiology as a branch of the Physiological Institute was a logical consequence of the increasing physiologization of clinical disciplines in diagnostics and therapy during the 1970s. Its history describes the only example of a subspecialization in physiology that led to the founding of an institute in Leipzig and the continuation of academic physiology education up to the third year of study with clinically relevant content. This volume presents the conception and institutionalization of the discipline of pathophysiology, as well as the scientific research and academic teaching at the institute until its closure in 1992.
