What is the relationship between language and politics? Josef Klein answers this question by examining the structural levels of language in relation to its meaning in politics: word, sentence, text/speech, verbal forms of interaction (debate, negotiation, hearing, etc.), and finally discourse, campaign, and procedure. At the same time, he views politics as a complex category that, with its dimensions of "polity" (institutional framework), "policy" (contents), and "politics" (processes and strategies), has specific effects on linguistic forms and functions. These analyses are framed by reflections on the relationship between power and language, as well as the tension between the ethics of communication and communication strategy and its consequences for language action and understanding.
