Chile is a modern country. Globalization is reflected not only in the Western lifestyle of Chileans but also linguistically, as English is on the rise. While not all Chileans understand and speak English, they are confronted with it daily in the media and social networks. Sarah Wille analyzes the extent of the influence of English on Chilean Spanish and the reasons behind it in this book. After a brief introduction to loanwords and the phenomenon of Anglicisms in Spanish in general, she presents the peculiarities of Chilean Spanish and the country's language policy. A corpus analysis of Anglicisms in spoken language provides insights into the regional distribution of terms, their usage, function, motivation, pronunciation, and the subject areas in which Anglicisms frequently occur.
