What did people in the German Empire of the Early Modern Period and the beginning of Modernity know about the ethnic and religious diversity of Hungary? German-language literature, as well as press texts, family books, chronicles, and travel reports from that time reflect a wealth of sometimes very different self- and other-images. The authors of this volume have analyzed these diverse sources. Their research findings, compiled here, characterize the intensity and nature of German-Hungarian relations between the 16th and 19th centuries and provide numerous approaches for imagology and cultural history research.
