The reality of Muslims is often distorted and inadequately represented. In an era of increasingly individualized media production, the question arises whether alternative Muslim public spheres have long provided a complementary source of information. Particularly newer media forms like weblogs expand the representation and action spaces of Muslims. This study is the first to comprehensively examine Muslim weblogs in the German-speaking internet. It paints a very nuanced picture of the virtual discourse community referred to as the Muslimosphere. The results are ambivalent: one cannot speak of a coherent Muslim blogosphere in light of an internal division between Islamophobic and Islamophilic blogs. However, it also becomes clear that some Muslim blogs contribute to a more multifaceted representation of Islam.
