Swiss-Finnish literary relations can be traced back to the beginnings of fine literature in the Finnish language in the first half of the 19th century. The first novel in Finnish was a translation of a work from German-speaking Switzerland, and it wasn't long before French-speaking Swiss literature also began to appear in Finnish translation. The contributions in this volume are dedicated to five Swiss authors who are significantly connected to Finland through one or more works, or who have had or currently have a close personal relationship with the country. At the same time, this volume serves as a reference work, as it contains the first comprehensive bibliography of Swiss literature translated into Finnish—including children's and young adult literature—from 1834 to the present day.
