Sedmikostelí (The Revenge of the Architects) by Czech author Milos Urban is an exciting, entertaining, and multi-layered novel. However, it is not just about the reading experience: the analysis, which starts from the seemingly simple question of the possibilities and limits of genre classification, soon reveals itself as an engagement with contradictions, parallels, and differences within a complex situation marked by interpenetrations. The ironic, postmodern play with expectations and assumptions comes to the forefront. The analyst becomes even more entangled in this game than the reader.
