Product details

Franz Liszt, the greatest pianist of the 19th century and one of the most significant composers of his time, is regarded as an extraordinarily charismatic personality. While the years in which Liszt traveled through Europe as a celebrated piano virtuoso or served as a composer and court conductor in Weimar are well documented and known, little attention has been given to the 25 years (1861-86) he spent in Rome and Tivoli. This lavishly illustrated chronicle provides a detailed account of Liszt's life and work in the "Eternal City," where he turned to Catholicism and produced his radical late works. Through numerous, mostly previously unpublished visual documents, it also creates an impressive portrait of Rome in the 19th century. With a foreword and a CD by Alfred Brendel.
