The Francis Way combines a wealth of extremely picturesque regions over 350 kilometers - from the mystical La Verna through the lonely, rugged high plateaus of the Apennines into the Tiber Valley and through the Valle Umbra with its vineyards and olive groves into the idyllic hilly landscape of the Rieti region. It also features ancient, picturesque mountain villages like Spello, Trevi, Stroncone, and Greccio, as well as urban highlights such as Arezzo, Gubbio, Assisi, and Spoleto - focal points of history and repositories of artistic treasures. Pilgrims thus walk in the footsteps of the Etruscans, Romans, Goths, Lombards, Popes, Medicis, and artists like Piero della Francesca, Giotto di Bordone, Fra Filippo Lippi, Raphael, and Pintoricchio.
