Homemade toys have a personal, unique character and are something truly special—not only for the one who will eventually play with them. When they are in motion, swinging, wobbling, or spinning around, both young and old are amazed. Whether children or adults, many are fascinated by moving wooden toys, and they derive great joy from creating the individual, sometimes mechanical components and bringing them to life. Frank Egholm, a long-time woodworking teacher in Vordingborg, Denmark, describes in detail the production of individual toys, alongside basic techniques and examples of various mechanics and forms of movement, which children and teenagers aged 11 to 12 can create with the help of an adult.
