Product details

Hedwig Diestel (1901 - 1991) comes from northern Germany. She grew up in the countryside, deeply connected with plants and animals, and this is reflected in her verses. Later, she chose a profession that brought her together with children: she became a daycare worker. After several years of practical work, she studied Eurythmy, the art of expressing musical tones and the spoken word through precisely defined dance movements. Once again, her path led her to young people, as she taught as a eurythmist at the Goethe School in Hamburg for nearly ten years. "I needed many poems!" she recounts. "And since I often couldn't find anything suitable, I created verses myself. The children knew it." During the war, she lost her outer hearing due to a bomb. Now, she can concentrate even more deeply on inner listening. And so, new verses continue to emerge.
