The book describes the structure of artistic education in Waldorf schools, providing detailed information and suggestions for work from kindergarten age to the 12th grade. The revised new edition has been supplemented with many illustrations and expanded to include a chapter on light-dark drawing in the 11th grade. The light and shadow conditions in the black-and-white art of Dürer are related to the drawings and etchings of Rembrandt, where light and shadow express spiritual and emotional connections. In this way, students are led into an inner perception of the tangible. They learn to shape forms from the surface in their black-and-white exercises (diagonal line technique) and achieve a deeper understanding of the polarities of light and darkness.
