Jennifer Klöckner examines the services provided by associations of free welfare and Turkish-Islamic organizations, as well as the motivations of their volunteers. Utilizing expert interviews with representatives of these associations and a standardized survey of both volunteer and full-time staff, the author analyzes the motivations of the actors involved. The interdisciplinary theoretical approach of the study integrates social-psychological perspectives within motivation research, sociological theories explaining the influence of individual sociodemographic characteristics of volunteers and their networks on motivations and voluntary work in various organizations, as well as economic theories that explain the impact of organizational incentives on the motivations for voluntary work.
