August Macke and his animals at Cologne Zoo
German, 2012Product details
A Sunday at the zoo is a wonderful experience. During the time of the painter August Macke (1887-1914), a visit to the zoo was something truly special. People strolled in their Sunday best through the avenues, marveling at the exotic animals. Even as a youth, August Macke was a regular visitor at the Cologne Zoo, capturing many scenes in his sketchbook: children and adults, birds and predators, deer and monkeys. Later, he became famous and had well-known artist friends. However, the animals looked completely different in the works of Paul Klee or Franz Marc, as each painter has their own unique style. Professor Jürgen Knabe has lovingly and sensitively documented August Macke's artistry, his life and work, as well as his special love for animals in an engaging book for children and young people. Parents and educators are encouraged to open the path to art for children.
