"From Burial Mound to Eco-Village" is an exciting and unusual portrait of the Canton of Zurich. The city and landscape are reflected through buildings and facilities that are significant in terms of art, culture, social history, as well as political and economic history. From each municipality, a building with its history of inhabitants and usage is presented in text and image, with several examples from the larger cities. The temporal and thematic scope is broad: the objects date back to ancient times and include Roman, medieval, early modern, and modern witnesses up to the present day. Represented are not only residential buildings but also industrial structures and commercial houses, castle ruins and traffic roundabouts, parsonages and taverns, train stations and post offices, school buildings and swimming pools, guest worker accommodations and tombs, bridges and washhouses.
