Product details

To mark the 100th anniversary of the Surrealism movement (2019), we are publishing two texts that demonstrate the connection between Dadaism and Surrealism. Ré Soupault's essay on Tristan Tzara, the founder of Dada, was broadcast as a feature on December 25, 1968, in the evening studio of Hessischer Rundfunk. Her essay "We Were Wrong: The True World Is Not What We Believed - The Emergence of Surrealism" was published on June 11, 1974. February 8, 1916, is considered the founding date of Dada in Zurich. Hans Arp, Hugo Ball, Viking Eggeling, Richard Hülsenbeck, Marcel Janco, Hans Richter, Tristan Tzara, and many others founded a movement in the midst of World War I that has not lost its influence in society, art, film, and literature to this day. In the spring of 1919, a few months after the end of World War I, Philippe Soupault and André Breton wrote the first surrealist text in literary history, "Les champs magnétiques" (The Magnetic Fields), at the Hôtel Grands Hommes in Paris. Together with Louis Aragon - who had introduced the three young men to the poet Guillaume Apollinaire - they established the Surrealism movement. They were referred to as the "three musketeers." Surrealism has also remained relevant.
