Thomas A. Szlezák presents an interpretation of the Greek philosopher in "Reading Plato" that can withstand his critique of the written work "Phaedrus" and takes Plato's assessment of the proper relationship between written and oral philosophy seriously. The legenda volume—a classic interpretation of Plato that remains relevant—has now been published in 17 languages. Thomas A. Szlezák, as a classical philologist, held the chair in Greek Philology and was the director of the Plato Archive at Eberhard Karls University Tübingen. One of his research focuses is Plato's unwritten doctrine.
