Since the global economic crisis of 1929, two important theories have been available to stock market analysts for analysis and forecasting purposes: fundamental analysis and chart analysis. These two methods are based on different understandings of the stock market and utilize different measurement concepts. In Part 1 of this book, which largely focuses on experiences from the stock market, the backdrop and reasons are presented as to why investment professionals and other users predominantly choose one of the approaches. The starting point for examining the usefulness of both theories in Part 2 is the question of whether stock prices react to fundamental news (which is generally expected) or whether the market anticipates fundamental news in the prices (which is commonly claimed). So, do prices create the news, or do the news create the prices?.
