What a European Championship – it had to be postponed by a year due to COVID, then some stadiums had empty stands and no foreign fans were allowed to attend, while in other stadiums there was a festive atmosphere and full houses. As if the excitement off the pitch wasn't enough, Euro 2020 finally kicked off with a dramatic opening match featuring Denmark.

Tears, drama, overflowing joy, and the thrill of victory.

Euro 2020 truly had it all, as if the football gods wanted to compensate us for a lost year. Italy ran through the tournament unbeaten. England actually achieved victory against Germany at Wembley and stumbled into the semifinals, while the German national team went home, bidding farewell to coach Jogi Löw as he retired.

The young national teams from Austria and Switzerland may not have made it to the final, but they won the hearts of fans in Europe with their team spirit and incredible perseverance.
