Andreas Herwig analyzes the labor market opportunities of immigrants in 18 Western European countries based on the European Labour Force Survey (EU-LFS). He investigates whether the origin of individuals or the origin of their education is more relevant for successful labor market integration and explores the extent to which country- and group-specific educational valuation opportunities are shaped by the stratification and vocational specificity of the education systems in the host countries. The results provide explanations for ethnic inequality in the labor market and contribute to the discussion on the influence of institutional frameworks on labor market opportunities.
