The contribution of this work is a fundamental, descriptive analysis of the research stream on CSR in retail, as well as the alternative business model of the social market, a trading company that prioritizes social goals over profit orientation. Furthermore, general insights into CSR and CSR communication are transferred to the grocery retail sector, and specific recommendations for marketing research and practice are derived.
