In her book, Juliane Kanitz not only addresses the frequently asked question of why Muslim women wear a headscarf, but she also focuses on how it is worn. She emphasizes the cultural-aesthetic and fashion preferences of the women rather than primarily the religious motives that are often the center of attention. In addition to contributing to research on the Muslim headscarf, the author presents theoretical and empirical insights into Islamic fashion and Islam in Germany as a whole. She also engages with the debate on Europeanization, where arguments against Muslims are put forward, and develops, through the new perspective of fashion, some previously overlooked viewpoints on the topic of the headscarf in Germany.
