Productivity, performance, and learning motivation are central factors in today's working world. At the same time, they are also levers for our well-being in the workplace. However, extrinsic motivators, or external incentives, continue to shape our work environment, and extrinsically motivated intentions limit our personal development. Growth that encounters limitations can turn back and may lead to burnout in the long run. The author illustrates this connection with practical examples. In contrast, there is intrinsic motivation, which is driven from within. A drive for performance stemming from one's own inner motivation leads to high productivity, fosters cooperation, and creates satisfaction when the necessary individual freedoms are provided. So how can we design workplaces to promote intrinsic motivation?.
