Many companies have drastically reduced the size of their supplier portfolios and are increasingly focusing on collaboration with a select few suppliers. Based on decision theory, Franziska Weis derives hypotheses regarding the determinants of customer share. The focus is on the influence of supplier status on the strength of these relationships. Using a cross-sectional analysis in the context of industrial goods, the author empirically tests the research model and demonstrates the impact of supplier status on the strength of the relationships. She shows that different customer loyalty strategies are associated with the status of a supplier.
