For family businesses characterized by a close connection between family, ownership, and a sense of tradition, the ability to produce innovative developments has become a crucial competitive factor. However, this has been inadequately addressed in tourism, particularly in family-run tourism enterprises. Judith Strobl builds on the current state of research and examines which factors influence the innovative capacity in tourism family businesses. To this end, the author develops a theoretical model, which she tests using a quantitative research design and multivariate analyses. Using selected member businesses from hotel cooperatives in Austria as examples, she identifies both internal and external factors and investigates the impact of so-called "familiness" on innovation.
