This collection focuses on the future perspectives of banking in light of the introduction of the European Banking Union. In addition to concerns about overregulation of banks in the euro area, the ongoing low-interest-rate environment poses another challenge in achieving the surpluses necessary for covering costs and strengthening capital reserves. Demographic changes are reducing the number of customers, while digitalization is empowering FinTechs as additional competitors. The contributions in this volume address how credit institutions are dealing with this situation and what the future of banking will look like. They are based on presentations by leading practitioners from the Münster Banking Days 2015.
