The contributions of this volume demonstrate and discuss the potential of a micro-sociological, process-oriented qualitative research on inequality. They trace practices of social betterment and worsening in the areas of education, work, social relationships, and migration. With an interpretative, action-theoretical, or practice-sociological perspective, they focus on the "Doing Inequality," the constructed nature and the practical reality of social inequality, as well as the role of actors in the creation, reproduction, and transformation of social inequalities. Social inequalities arise from the regularly unequal distribution of valuable goods in a society. But how are these allocated, appropriated, or withheld?.
