In light of the observable turbulent environmental disruptions, the importance of inter-company networks and collaborations continues to grow. However, this ongoing trend of networking is met with an extremely high failure rate in practice. This makes it clear that the touted advantages do not automatically materialize. Rather, there is a need for solutions that explicitly address the design of such complex control states. Starting from a systematic examination of the characteristics of strategic corporate networks, Alexander Rief presents a holistic control model. It takes into account the institutional, instrumental, and functional aspects from both a static and a dynamic-developmental perspective. For the increasingly severe control gap in the network context, the author presents, for example, potential solutions.
