The present work by Silja Drack aims to connect research and practice in personnel management and leadership. This is a very ambitious goal, yet the dissertation achieves it very well. Leadership-promoting and influencing personnel management tools are identified and presented in an easily understandable manner. A combination of qualitative research through expert interviews and quantitative empirical data is used to examine practical experiences. These empirical insights complement the theoretical work in various ways. Vivid examples and lively statements from personnel managers are provided to enhance the rather theoretical foundational concepts in a practical manner, and on this basis, an integrated model of human resources management tools for promoting leadership is developed. Furthermore, the impact of a personnel tool is examined.
