The focus of this volume is the analysis of the practice of open teaching. Through intensive field research, the DFG project "Individualization and Control" has observed three contrastively selected primary schools in mixed-age classes, examining their handling of time, lesson organization, and assessment and control practices. The results clearly illustrate the specific challenges that arise from the organization and implementation of individualized teaching for both teachers and students.
