This chapter aims to introduce the reader to the fascinating world of investment banking: Who are the players? What are their roles and objectives? How do economic, political, and legal frameworks influence the activities of investment bankers? Which institutions dominate the field and what is their structure? Although much has been written about investment bankers, there is still a long way to go before reaching a consensus on the term investment banking. Furthermore, the anglicization of international investment banking represents a complete takeover of the customs, terminology, and standards of the global financial community. There is no need to advocate for a cultural battle against the foreign influence of these terms, as this battle has already been lost. Therefore, I will refrain from providing another definition that would only add to the existing jungle of inconsistency.
