To achieve the purpose of promoting the welfare of the child, the legislator provides the professionals involved in the proceedings with vague legal concepts. To apply these appropriately to individual cases, interprofessional communication is necessary; without it, family judges would regularly be overwhelmed in fulfilling their duties. However, the professionals communicate based on their respective scientific and profession-specific methodologies, which can lead to misunderstandings and conflicts. Resolving these issues in the interest of the child's welfare requires a dialogical approach to legal finding. This study focuses on two fundamental questions: When and under what conditions does the orientation towards the welfare of the child seem to be lost, when does dialogical legal finding succeed, and when does it fail, and why?.
