With the design of a multi-stage inventory management model for the internal supply of medical consumables in hospitals, the author identifies cost-saving potentials while ensuring supply security. She provides a tool to increase the transparency of supply processes on one hand, and to reduce inventory levels with positive effects on capital commitment, storage space requirements, obsolescence risk, and expiration risk on the other hand. The underlying inventory policy is characterized by its ease of implementation, low logistical demands on nursing staff, and its relevance to current processes in the hospital.
