The controlled auction is increasingly gaining popularity as a method of acquisition in private transactions in Germany. While the buyer-side valuation of companies is thoroughly documented, strategic recommendations for buyers are almost completely lacking in the scientific literature. In this context, Friedrich Sommer derives the relevance of market price forecasts in controlled auctions based on auction theory, negotiation research, and behavioral economic approaches. In addition to providing a comprehensive overview of the methods for determining these forecasts using multiplier methods, he presents the results of a large empirical study regarding the accuracy of forecasts, taking into account deviation direction, industry, and time effects.
